One Of Shé D’Montford Favourite Tasks Is Performing Baby Naming Rituals.
What Is a Baby Naming Ritual?
A baby naming ritual is a ceremony to bless, protect, and name a new human life. A Baby Naming ritual is a short and relatively straightforward ceremony. This is a chance for the family and friends of the new child to gather and formally acknowledge the birth, their family, both blood and chosen, and their godparent.
How Is This Performed?
The child is dressed in new clothes and sometimes soothing black kajal is applied to its eyes to keep out negative influences. The group circle around the child protectively and chant her given birth name and her family name. The child is also given a secret name known only to the child the mother and the celebrant , which is both sacred and a protection as none can control that which they can not name. The child will then receive their first smudging to remove all negative influences after which a deity is often chosen and asked to patronise, strengthen and guide the new one.

JAZMYN'S BABY NAMING
In conclusion some blessed food and drink symbolic of sustaining her through life is given to the child and shared with those gathered. Any who have gifts for the child can then come forward and place them on the altar.

“ Hello, my name i s Cassandra and you conducted the naming ceremony for my daughter Jazmyn at Narooma in 2006. I just quickly wanted to pass on something Jazmyn said to me last night; She's 4 now and was flicking through the T.V. channels last night, we ended up on the show 'The One' halfway through your introduction. Jazmyn surprised me by saying ' … Mum she protected me at my party, don't you remember?' I nearly fell over surprised that she remembered that much detail! … Cas. ”
